Deep cleaning

Deep cleaning, also known as scaling and root planing, is a dental procedure performed to treat periodontal disease, which is an infection of the gums and the surrounding tissues that support the teeth. During a deep cleaning will carefully remove plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) from above and below the gumline. This process involves scaling, which is the removal of plaque and tartar from the tooth surfaces, including the roots of the teeth. After scaling, the roots of the teeth may be smoothed out or planed to remove any rough areas where bacteria can easily accumulate.
